Inspired by Balmain Spring 2008

Balmain Spring Summer 2008 Ready To Wear, Paris Fashion Week

With spring quickly closing in, I can’t help but to be inspired by the fanciful and romantic collection from Balmain SS 2008. If there was ever a show I would have thoroughly enjoyed sitting front row for, this would be it. Before the Rock & Roll and flashy sequin aesthetic … before the mutilated denim and leather stepped in, Christophe Decarnin channeled a free-spirited bohemian princess with this group; Native Americans and India underlying the inspiration. This is exactly how I envision dressing for spring: soft, flowy fabrics in every imaginable color from the soothing pastel palette.

PS- Congratulations to LifeStylePhilosophy the winner of the Asos and Fashiolista £100 Gift Card giveaway.

Kicking back on Sunday with Lanvin and the Oscars

Before, one could only imagine the outcome of creativity if Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile and Pocahontas were BFF's and swapped wardrobes. Well now, you can see it and this is exactly what it would look like: furs, feathers, black fringe, tribal jewelry and pleated metallics. Lanvin took my breath away. Well done, Alber Elbaz!

Paris Fashion Week really won me over this Season.

    Famous faces:
Magdalena Frackowiak, Freja Beha Erichsen, Anna Selezneva and Natasha Poly.

Can anyone identify the model on the far left?

    Other noteworthy collections:
Christian Dior (Think: Newsies meets high-end, yet old fashioned, Circus glamour.) Isabel Marant (Sandy, from Grease, would so wear this. 50's and 60's chic to the max!) Gareth Pugh (beetle shaped capes and Space traveling-ready boots.) Nina Ricci (brought Old Hollywood Glamour back, in the form of body hugging knee length tea dresses, lace and pops of happy color.) Dries Van Noten (Think: Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller, with a tinge of Back to the Future / 80's cool!) And we can't forget about Balmain - Equal parts trendsetting and a flashback to 1970's: Disco glam.

Who saw Alice in Wonderland over the weekend? Thoughts? Likes/dislikes? I usually wait for the crowds to dissipate before attempting to view a feature film... I like it quiet and empty.

Ps. What is/was your favorite dress from The Oscars last night? I absolutely loved Sarah Jessica Parker's hair.

And, a food snap. For those of you who requested more of them.

A typical breakfast of biscuits with strawberry jam, banana and mocha coffee (made by moi!)

Moon Stone

I was invited a few weeks ago to try Boutique by Forever 21. A new design to the Forever 21 store and collection; paralleling vintage. I'm infatuated with this sweater tunic top. Feeling like Pocahontas in the unique print and sequins; which only seemed to dazzle more in the light, I pranced by the lake. I can't wait for Spring and Summer to wear it as a dress with some funky footwear! You can check out my feature along with some other photos, bloggers and interview here.

Forever 21 tunic and skinny jeans. James Perse thermal. *Bakers booties. (*Olivia Palermo, if you're reading this, I love that we both own the same shoes. ;)_

Music gets a new face lift now with video, it seems I can only play music with video footage now!? Hope you like...

Autumn Orange

How was your weekend? I hope great. It's become quite a tradition among the women in my family that Sunday is the day the men cook, not the women. So keeping with tradition, the men made a barbecue and the women relaxed. Afterward, we spent the afternoon scouring for Sweety's favorite pet store, Pet Supermarket; which for some reason doesn't seem to be around here. Luckily, we came across Petco which conveniently carries her favorite brand of pet food and treats. I've also recently become acquainted with Redbox, a movie rental service akin to a candy vending machine. 1 movie for $1 per day. In Florida, we used to rent all of the latest releases from the local library for free. That isn't the case in North Carolina, I guess reading is more standard than renting movies? The cold does that to you I guess.

Complex Geometries top. Banana Republic sweater. Danskin leggings. Bakers Balmain booties. Bare Accessories bag. OPI in Vodka & Caviar.

Jill Stuart. The New Balmain? And how about some more Wang?

    (New York Fashion Week continues...)

A little bit Futuristic and a whole lot of fun. Party frocks for everyone! Jill Stuart also kept the little jacket up to date in all its studded, cropped glory; worked in stovepipe pants and a whole lot of shimmer, glimmer and shine into her delicate, yet showy pieces. With it's mesh accents, lace and posh perfect cuts, the collection is fit for a Queen, a Queen Bee that is. Blair Waldorf and the gang just might be spotted in Jill Stuart for the third installment of Gossip girl. A girl can hope. What do you say S & B? It's a collection you either love or hate. I'm veering on love. Especially on the piece I've circled above. I'll be dreaming of that frock, tonight... the whole outfit in it's entirety, actually.....

And a little more Wang for you, because quite frankly, Alexander dear, you amaze me in all that you do! Athletic wear becoming everyday girl wear? Lace-up, zipper infused cleats.. with studs!?!? Thank you for dreaming, it is thoughts and creative ideas like these that inspire us all to push on and try out our own personal dreams, no matter what they may be. The subtle shine in the collection conjures up an almost angelic vibe. Angels in the Outfield anyone? It also doesn't hurt that most of my favorite models were in your line-up: Isabeli Fontana, Anna Selezneva, Regina Feoktistova, Snejana Onopka, Natasha Poly, Lily Donaldson.... Sigh!

Killer Instinct

My favorite numbers are 7 and 9. I was born in September (the 9th month, 17th day). Maybe it's the 9 because this week has been filled with lots of exciting news. One having to do with Lucky magazine and a Blogger Style Feature in Spilled Milk mag. More news to come soon, too. I'm also keyed up about Gossip girl and The Beautiful Life starting next week. Who caught 90210? Hello Season 2!!! Adriana, Silver and Naomi are looking as. gorgeous. as. ever! And more specifically, hellooo Liam. Happy Birthday to me (in exactly one week from today.. 9/17!!!)

I couldn't wait to rock my Christopher Kane -esque Gorilla tee, found by Rumi (Fashion Toast) on eBay, and now, of which I am the proud owner. I finished with my fast-becoming-a-staple skinny BDG jeans (they remind me of Balmain) and studded BCBG heels. = I was going for a Sandy, after the makeover, in Grease, look.. the "glove" is homage to Michael Jackson.

I have always been a big fan of Shoebuy. (In fact, all of my Minnetonka boots came from them!) These heels are reviewed perfectly on the site by clarifying their stylish sleek look; a sandal on a platform, which feature a high, yet comfortable, heel. Large metal rivets accompany the detailed stitching for a vamped up look.

Balmain in Paris '09... left me completely breathless.... again!

Space age chic. Star Wars reminiscent; Princess Leia would so wear all of it. The pinched up, pointy shoulder pads have such a Star Trek feel to them. The over the top (or is it?) sparkle and glitter of the sequins leave me in love yet again!! And what can I say about those chunkified moon boots? Part Marc Jacobs, part Ski Resort and a teeny tiny part Napoleon Dynamite (in a good way!)

Christophe Decarnin, fresh from a decade's work at Paco Rabanne, has brought Balmain to a whole new level. During last year's collections I was rendered speechless over the Minnetonka-esque heeled booties (thank you Bakers, for making sufficient knock offs!)

Almost as much as the clothing, I was left in lust over the model lineup; Anja Rubik, Anna Selezneva, Carmen Kass, Elena Melnik, Isabeli Fontana, Kim Noorda, Lily Donaldson, Lara Stone, Magdalena Frackowiak, Natasha Poly, Karmen Pedaru, Sasha Pivovarova, Erin Wasson and Raquel Zimmerman to name a few, and all in one show. I could not have hand selected a better assortment than these lovely ladies to don Balmain a/w 09!

    Dear: Christophe Decarnin,

I reiterate. I love you and your genius ways. From the Harem balloon pants and rocker leather shrunken jackets to the street style skeleton tee-shirts and leopard print body con dresses; I am forever humbled in your presence.

PS: The Balmain blue dazzles like champagne. Thanks for making my dreams all fizzy and wonderful.

    xoxo/ Erika.

New York Fashion Week '09 is here!!!

Just as the crisp winter air starts to die down, just a little, the models, Socialites, and Celebrities start coming out in droves; dressed in their best, for Fashion Week. I decided to talk a little about my favorite Collections thus far.

    Abaeté -
Crisp, sleek lines. I love how this season is all about the black, grey and white canvas. Yet, by mixing in a few well placed and funky accents, like diamantes, ruffles and chains; and very similarly to the way Balmain and Rodarte did in their previous collections, you too can easily lend a hand at evolving the designs into something modern and marvelous; with a much appreciated twist.

    Alexander Wang -
Always current. Always cool. It seems that with each collection, he gets smarter and the all more inspired! I love his crazy cut outs and sleek body conscious designs. I envision turning his pair of cut out leggings (up above) into a wondrous cat suit. Can you only imagine?

    Monique Lhuillier -
Gothic glam. Raspberry red and black. Glorious. Genius! The look is part Old Hollywood and part 90's Gothic. I love the unexpected mish mash of lace, full skirted frocks and fishnet gloves. The bows on the toes and layered chain necklaces are the frosting that top off this decadent cake.

    Luca Luca -
The Vampy, yet reserved, Vixen steps out of her house in elegance. I'm reminded of the greats: Audrey Hepburn, Tippi Hedren, Lauren Bacall. Red has always been the color used best for attention seekers, love and luxury. Fitted skirts and jackets are also looks to watch out for in this collection. Old Hollywood is back with a bang and I'm already applauding from the sidelines.

My only wish? To one day get to be there, and see it… live!!!

“Bad girls always wear red nail polish; on their toes.”

I thought I'd make this particular post a little bit about the things I most enjoy. Gilmore girls for one, where the idea for the title of this post came from. Getting to know Erika (Fashion Chalet) a little bit better, means spending time with me at the bookstore; sipping a latte while pouring over a myriad of Fashion magazines. Scouring Vintage boutiques for the perfect, already worn in, leather boots and bags. An afternoon lunch at Sweet Tomatoes; salad and soup anyone? How about a walk in the park with a great book to read under a large shady tree? Oversized sunglasses in tow, of course. Target, Nordstrom and Barnes & Noble are other frequented haunts. Classical music soothes me. The Olsens inspire me. Audrey Hepburn is who I aspire to be. Rodarte, Balmain and Louboutin are what I crave most. Chanel is my makeup. America is my homeland. Fashion is my passion. Shoes are my compulsion. Juicy Couture is my guilty pleasure. American Apparel makes my heart beat. Marc Jacobs used to make my heart soar. Forever 21 leads me to great dresses and off beat jewelry. John Galliano, a genius in my eyes. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein still makes me cry. Fringe is my favorite accessory on everything. I 'd love to walk in Carine Roitfeld's shoes for a day. Jak and Jil make me crave my addiction that much more. And, I anxiously anticipate the release of Where The Wild Things Are movie, slated for October 2009.

Dress: Vintage. Cardigan: Marc Jacobs. Tights: Target. Ankle Fringed Booties: Bakers.

Marching into November!

As we enter the crisp month of November, I am instantly filled with visions of the Holiday season to come. Brightly colored decor; in glittering green, lavish gold and ruby red; twinkling lights, egg nog and pumpkin pie; the gift of giving and creating new memories; traditions. All, tantalizing the senses.

From grungy to girly, who better to bring life to the holiday spirit of dressing up than the boisterous Balmain, trendsetting Mary Kate Olsen, entrepreneur Erin Wasson and model Hilary Rhoda? From big hair to fun fur, this is the time of year that I treasure most. It's going to be a grand celebration and I can't wait for the festivities to begin! ♥

Balmain, my love!

Test driving my new suede booties. I have a feeling these babies are going to come in handy, come the cooler weather. I slip in and out of them like butter. They could not have been designed any better. I love their fit, look and comfort. Almost cuter than the real ones (I like the heel on these much more, than on the originals.) Thank you, Bakers, for replicating the Balmain delight and satisfying our palate!

A Reflection of Love

Feeling down today, it seems as if I have come down with a terrible head cold, almost flu-like in symptoms and right in the middle of our moving, too. I hate change. I don't do well with it. I'm weird that way. But I did manage to take plenty of "outfit" photo shoots in our old place, just in case, to tide me over. It may take me a while to get unpacked and settled here. But I will take your requests on any "Fall Outfit" ideas you may want to see me try out in the blog sometime in the near future. :) For now, I hope you enjoy this collage. Your comments do have a wonderful way of cheering me up! ♥

This collage incorporates everything from the 90's grunge look to the ultra feminine floral motif look of today. Balmain, Audrey Hepburn, Tallulah Morton, a touch of street chic. What's your pleasure?

...a few Marvelous cravings!

From patent to studs to even suede fringe, my heart yearns for it all in black as night. I love the chic advantage one can achieve by simply dressing in black, head to toe. As effortless as painting your nails in the vamp shade to even dressing up your feet with dark patent, black is here to stay; day or night. Above is a Polyvore set of some of my current desires in this particular hue. Now if only I could have each and every single one of them..
